Weekly Instagram Live session with multi-disciplinary artist Sizhu Li @sizhuli.
Chinese-born and based in New York, Li's immersive kinetic installations highlight influences from both the Eastern and Western traditions that inform her understandings of the world. The New Futuristic works are experienced as a performance where humour and personification of technological and industrial objects explore the complexities of our modern societies.
After a first successful solo show in Baltimore, Li has been exhibited at New York's Spring/Break Art Show and will be featured at the Alabama Contemporary Art Centre this year. Her recent works were also included as set design in the popular American legal drama Law & Order: Organized Crime which premiered in April.

Instagram Live: Sunjoo Park Talks About Creating SE14 Exhibition
2.00PM BST | 10.00PM KST
Instagram Live with Seoul based curator and artist Sunjoo Park about co-organising the exhibition as an artist collective, SE14, at Seoripul Gallery and the significance of New Cross (Postcode SE14), London from her own experience living in the capital city.
In the light of the pandemic which has and will continue to reshape our perception of daily life, five young artists gather to look deep within and re-evaluate questions youths continuously throw at themselves, each in their own unique ways, and present it together in a space. Pondering on the self-conscious, projection of the self in relationship with others, uncertainty towards the future, endless self-loathing as well as occasional narcissism, personas we wish to present to others and ourselves hiding behind it, and other similar thoughts are re-thought on whether they were impacted as much as how we get by has been.
Seoripul Gallery, originally an underground passage that has been abandoned for over twenty years, is unlike the traditional “white-cube” exhibition space. Its original purpose can still be seen in what the show is all about. As the five, individual artists use the space to contemplate on themselves both in solitude and in tandem with each other, they grow. They wish that, at the end of the tunnel, at the flight of stairs that will take them up back to the upper world, they would re-surface, and be better than they were yesterday.
Live Tour Melbourne: notfair opening night event preview
9.30AM BST | 6.30PM AEST
Exclusive Instagram Live Preview & Tour with Celina Lei and show organisers during the pre-opening night of this year’s |notfair| Art Fair in Melbourne, Australia.
“This year’s |notfair| is in many ways a leap of faith. Accordingly, it seems apt that while the last |notfair| was held in a former margarine factory, its latest iteration is held in a former community hall and place of worship (The Kardinia Church). It is a leap of faith not only because of the challenges wreaked by the COVID plague, but in a time when many artists have grown understandably obsessed with issues of climate change and the very fate of Planet Earth.”
|notfair”| 2021 is being held at the former Kardinia Church open to public from 20th-30th May.

Live Tour Shanghai: Appeal Exhibition Opening with Artist Ingnan
11.00am BST / 6.00pm CST
Exclusive tour of the exhibition by Shanghai based artist Ingnan ahead of the opening night at X Bar.
Ingnan created the Appeal neon art series telling stories of the people he met in this port city, Shanghai through his own personal experience.
“They are men, women, straight, queer, from west, from east, they came, stayed, left and left marks on the city and me. As the similar appeals drive us together and apart, life goes on as always.”
People move, appeal stays.
Instagram Live with Sebastian Correa
1.00pm BST / 8.00pm CST
Weekly Instagram Live session with Chilean artist Sebastian Correa on photography @sebastiancorrea, illustration @sebastiancorrea_draws and life in Shanghai from his everyday observations.
"My motivation is the city: I attempt to reveal everyday scenes of Shanghai: a neighborhood in a city that doesn’t stop multiplying and demolishing; hopeful parents and grandparents in the marriage market; napping kuaidi drivers, street stylists, and a baozi-makers. The figures approximate the portrait and encourage an urban feeling – the spirit of a city that disappears and remains, connecting and detaching strangers and friends, locals, and newcomers.”
#SQUATSTUDIES
Graphic representations of this archetypal, physiological posture resuscitate an art form that has been all but forgotten in the West, an extinction consummated by the artificial construct of “civilization” as well as ubiquitous office jobs that demand sedentary positionalities. Is a call for a meditation on humanity’s shared experience and a return to our species’ common origins, as squatting is also a position associated with that most fundamental part of life: birth
#AYI & SHUSHU
Always focus on the eminently unique metropolis of Shanghai and its people, but shifting the ability for abstraction to localized movements within the city. Confident brush strokes, bold colors, and strong figures, the practice is minimalist and an invitation to simplicity. Centered on the lack of noise, the silent margins of paper serve as space for metaphor and imagination, as what is left unexpressed remains just as important as what is. This works are simultaneously playful and nostalgic, whether dancing couples in the park or taiji practitioners moving in unison on the city square.

still from video - New Normal (2021)
A combination of digital drawing, green screen filming and sound resonance. Throughout the year, Furqan has been conducting ethnography research to observe and participate in a real-life environment. The research method used is interviewing, taking photographs, field notes and narrative analysis. The objective of this social research is to investigate how did covid-19 impact human behaviour?. The research shows many individuals are feeling a low level of health care, mental trauma, lack of empathy, isolation, regular testing, tracking and surveillance. These are some reason for psychological distress and behavioural changes in society. The primary interest lies in providing a general sense of care to others, oneself, for one situation and environment. He believes a humanistic approach gives empathy and holistic experience to enlighten the human condition in the age of pandemic.
